Shimizu Port container throughput rises 3% in October
The Port of Shimizu in central Japan handled 31,388 TEUs of loaded oceangoing containers in October, a 3% increase year on year as Japan International Freight Forwarders Association reported, based on Shizuoka Prefectural Government’s Shimizu Port Authority.
Exports rose 6.8% to 14,418 TEUs, while imports remained steady at 16,970 TEUs. Empty containers fell 24.8% to 4,230 TEUs. Domestic containers increased 14.8% to 9,782 TEUs, bringing total throughput to 45,400 TEUs, up 1.8%, marking the first year-on-year rise in two months.
From January to October, Shimizu handled 290,180 loaded TEUs, up 1.5%, including 125,665 TEUs of exports (+0.7%) and 164,515 TEUs of imports (+2.1%). Empty containers totaled 46,854 TEUs (+1.4%), while domestic containers fell 0.7% to 89,931 TEUs. Total throughput for the period reached 426,965 TEUs, up 1%.
