EnviTec Biogas and TT-Line Partner on Bio-LNG for Ferries
EnviTec Biogas and TT-Line have signed a bio-LNG supply agreement. The partnership follows a successful trial bunkering of 40 tons of bio-LNG for TT-Line’s Ro-Pax ferry, Peter Pan, in Travemünde.
The agreement supports more sustainable maritime transport. Bio-LNG can reduce emissions by up to 100% compared to marine diesel. TT-Line’s ferries are now better positioned to meet the EU FuelEU Maritime Regulation on greenhouse gas intensity.
Peter Pan and her sister ship, Nils Holgersson, are the largest LNG-powered Ro-Pax ferries in the world. “These ferries go beyond meeting legal requirements. We are preparing our fleet for a sustainable future,” said Torben Nikolay, CFO of TT-Line.
EnviTec Biogas produces bio-LNG from organic waste such as slurry, poultry manure, food waste, and agricultural residues. The fuel is upgraded to biomethane and then liquefied at EnviTec’s BioEnergie Park Güstrow plant.
TT-Line connects ports in Germany, Poland, Lithuania, and southern Sweden, carrying around 1 million passengers, 250,000 cars, and 500,000 freight units annually.
