Saadé family takes 4% stake in Carrefour

The Saadé family, owners of CMA CGM, has acquired a 4% stake in French retail giant Carrefour, becoming the company’s second-largest shareholder. The investment broadens the group’s strategic footprint beyond maritime logistics and into the global retail sector, where supply chain partnerships are increasingly important.

CMA CGM Chairman and CEO Rodolphe Saadé will join Carrefour’s Board of Directors, giving the family direct involvement in the company’s strategic direction.

The move aligns with CMA CGM’s growing diversification strategy, which already includes major investments in air cargo, logistics, and media. Carrefour’s extensive global presence provides new opportunities for supply chain integration, particularly in procurement, cold chain logistics, and retail distribution.

Analysts note that the involvement of a major logistics family in one of the world’s largest retailers could deepen collaboration across supply chain and e-commerce operations.
