Maersk selects Charlotte as its new North American headquarters

A.P. Moller–Maersk has announced that Charlotte, North Carolina will become its official North American headquarters, a decision that reinforces the company’s long-standing presence in the city and aligns with its plans for continued growth in the region.

Maersk said it will add more than 500 new jobs over the coming years, bringing its total Charlotte workforce to over 1,300 employees. The company has maintained a corporate base in Charlotte for more than two decades and purchased its current South Charlotte facility in 2006.

The selection of Charlotte was driven by the market’s affordability, expanding talent pool and high quality of life. The new headquarters will host key corporate functions, including finance, human resources, commercial strategy and technology.

We have substantially grown and transformed our North American business, and workforce, on our path to become an integrated logistics partner for our customers. As we looked to the future, we realized an official North American headquarters would allow us to even better serve our customers and continue to build a workplace where everyone can thrive. For more than two decades, we’ve built strong relationships and a solid foundation in Charlotte. We’re excited to deepen our roots in this vibrant community and in the North America region,” said Charles van der Steene, president, North America Region at Maersk.

Maersk said the move will further support its integrated logistics strategy and strengthen its ability to serve customers across the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
