AD Ports Group acquires stake in Alexandria Container & Cargo Handling Company

AD Ports Group has acquired a 19.328% equity stake in Alexandria Container & Cargo Handling Company (ALCN) from the Saudi Egyptian Investment Company (SEIC), a Public Investment Fund (PIF) entity, in a transaction valued at approximately EGP 13.2 billion.

The deal marks a major step in AD Ports Group’s expansion strategy in Egypt and reinforces its position as a leading facilitator of trade across the Mediterranean and the wider East–West corridor linking Asia, the Middle East and Europe. The investment is closely aligned with Egypt’s national objectives for economic diversification and sustainable development.

SEIC’s exit reflects its strategy of enhancing the value of portfolio companies and redeploying capital into new high-potential sectors. Since SEIC’s investment in 2022, ALCN has undergone a significant transformation, recording a 194% increase in operating revenue between FY2022 and FY2025.

Founded in 1984 and listed since 1995, ALCN operates two key Mediterranean terminals in Alexandria and El-Dekheilla. Together they offer:

1.5 million TEU capacity
1.07 million TEU throughput in FY2025
~71% utilisation
1.6 km of combined quay length
Direct links to Egypt’s national rail network

ALCN serves several major global carriers and reported EGP 8.37 billion (USD 168 million) in revenue and EGP 6.09 billion (USD 129 million) in adjusted EBITDA for FY2025.

Commenting on the acquisition, AD Ports Group CEO Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi said the investment expands the Group’s operational footprint along a critical global trade route, strengthens long-standing partnerships in Egypt and supports regional economic diversification and integration.

He emphasised that the stake in ALCN enhances AD Ports Group’s ability to facilitate trade through this vital corridor while deepening collaboration in Egypt and driving long-term value creation in line with the directives of the UAE’s leadership.
