Maersk strengthens Americas connectivity with new Manzanillo depot

A.P. Moller – Maersk has inaugurated a new logistics depot in Manzanillo, Mexico, reinforcing its presence in one of the country’s most important trade hubs through a strategic investment of more than USD 15 million.

Located just five kilometers from the Port of Manzanillo, Mexico’s busiest container gateway, handling nearly half of the nation’s containerized cargo, the new facility is designed to ease first- and last-mile constraints and improve cargo flows through the port.

Maersk said the investment reflects its long-term commitment to strengthening supply chain resilience and supporting trade growth across Mexico and the wider Americas.

The depot spans 31,000 square meters and expands Maersk’s operational capacity in a port that serves as a key entry point for cargo arriving from Asia. Manzanillo provides direct connectivity to Mexico’s main industrial regions, including the Bajío and the central corridor, making it a critical node for domestic distribution and international trade.

“Manzanillo is one of Mexico’s most dynamic trade hubs, and this investment underscores our commitment to the country’s long-term growth,” said Patricia Perez Salazar, Managing Director, Maersk Mexico. “By offering integrated services, from shunting to transloading and reefer support, we are helping customers simplify their supply chains and strengthen their competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.”

Maersk said the new facility is designed to address some of the most challenging aspects of modern supply chains, particularly last-mile efficiency. By relocating key logistics activities closer to the port, the company aims to reduce congestion, lower costs and accelerate transit times for customers.

“The last mile is one of the most critical, and most challenging, links in today’s supply chains,” said Getulio Centanaro Patino, Head of Logistics and Services, Maersk Mexico. “With this new facility in Manzanillo, we’re creating agility where it matters most, reducing logistics costs, accelerating transit times and giving businesses better control over their cargo.”

He added that the depot positions Maersk to support increased demand ahead of major global events Mexico is set to host in 2026, particularly across retail, lifestyle and technology sectors.

The Manzanillo depot has a total capacity of 6,018 TEUs and is equipped with 50 reefer plugs and 60 repair positions. It can handle dry cargo, refrigerated containers, gensets and 53-foot boxes.

Services offered at the site include shunting operations to reduce truck idling and port congestion, transloading for dry and refrigerated cargo while maintaining cold-chain integrity, container management to optimize inbound and outbound flows, and maintenance and repair services for dry and reefer equipment.

Maersk said the new depot strengthens its integrated logistics offering in Mexico and enhances connectivity across the Americas, supporting customers with faster, more reliable and cost-efficient supply chain solutions.
