Maersk revises import demurrage and detention free time in Madagascar
A.P. Moller – Maersk has announced a revision to its import demurrage and detention (D&D) free-time offering in Madagascar, aimed at maintaining service standards and operational efficiency.
Effective 1 February 2026, Maersk will reduce the import detention free time for dry containers from 10 days to 9 days.
Revised standard import free-time offering
Under the updated structure, the combined import demurrage and detention free time will be:
-
Dry containers (20’ and 40’): 9 days
-
Reefer containers (20’ and 40’): 7 days
-
Special equipment (20’ and 40’): 7 days
Rates after free time expiry
Maersk confirmed that detention charges applicable after free time expiry will continue to follow the existing tariff structure, with rates increasing progressively based on the number of days elapsed beyond the free-time period. The applicable charges vary by equipment type and container size and remain valid in accordance with Maersk’s published tariff terms.
The carrier advised customers to factor the revised free-time allowance into their import planning for Madagascar from the effective date.
