Nova Marine takes control of Amsterdam’s all-weather Waterland Terminal
Nova Marine Carriers has secured a new foothold in the Port of Amsterdam through a joint acquisition with Germany’s Aug. Bolten and Spain’s Ership.
The partners have acquired full control of VCK Port Logistics and its associated port assets, including the Waterland Terminal. The deal was completed via Dutch subsidiary Maja Stuwadoorsgroep B.V. The seller, VCK Holding, exited after more than 100 years of ownership.
The transaction gives the group control of Europe’s only terminal capable of loading and unloading vessels fully under cover. The Waterland Terminal operates in all weather conditions and supports uninterrupted 24/7 cargo handling. It also features a dehumidified warehouse designed for steel products.
The terminal includes three all-weather LoLo berths and two RoRo berths. Operations continue regardless of weather, with no impact on speed or cargo quality. Storage facilities cover steel, aluminum, zinc, paper, wood, pulp, containers, and RoRo cargo.
“With this acquisition, we continue our strategy of vertical integration between shipping and port logistics,” said Vincenzo Romeo, CEO of Nova Marine Carriers. “Our goal is to expand control across the supply chain while investing in high-standard, technology-driven assets.”
The new owners plan to grow the breakbulk and dry bulk business alongside VCK’s existing customers. The current management team will remain in place, ensuring operational continuity for employees and clients.
In February 2025, the same Nova–Bolten–Ership partnership acquired full control of the Vlothaven bulk terminal in Amsterdam. Both terminals will now operate under Maja Stuwadoorsgroep B.V., strengthening the group’s position in the Dutch port.
Nova Marine Carriers, headquartered in Lugano, controls a fleet of around 100 bulk and self-unloading vessels ranging from 5,000 to 66,000 dwt. The group operates across the Mediterranean, Atlantic, and Middle East and has expanded steadily into port logistics over the past five years.
