OrbitMI opens Tokyo office, appoints Kazuo Yamashita for Japan growth

OrbitMI, a leading maritime SaaS provider and voyage optimization platform, has opened a new office in Tokyo. The office will support OrbitMI’s growing customer base and partner network in Japan. The expansion reflects rising demand for solutions that improve reporting, compliance, and commercial decision-making through connected workflows.

To lead its Japan operations, OrbitMI appointed Kazuo Yamashita as Business Development Partner. Yamashita will oversee business development, partnerships, and market activation, serving as OrbitMI’s exclusive representative in the country.

Yamashita brings over 40 years of experience in the maritime and offshore sectors. He held senior leadership roles in global classification and major commercial shipping organizations. From 2016 to 2025, he served as Chief Executive for Marine & Offshore at Bureau Veritas Japan Co., Ltd. Before that, he spent 35 years with Mitsui & Co., Ltd., covering maritime and offshore operations, commercial development, and international assignments in Morocco and Algeria. Yamashita also serves as President of Bussole Marine & Offshore LLC in Tokyo.

“Japan is one of the most influential markets in global shipping,” said Ali Riaz, CEO of OrbitMI. “Our Tokyo office is a milestone for OrbitMI. Yamashita-san’s expertise and reputation make him the ideal leader to represent us and grow our presence in the region.”

The Tokyo office will help Japanese shipowners and operators meet complex operational and regulatory demands, including CII, EU ETS, and FuelEU Maritime. OrbitMI’s platform improves reporting accuracy, strengthens data quality, and optimizes voyages by connecting multiple operational systems into one workflow.

“I am pleased to represent OrbitMI in Japan,” said Kazuo Yamashita. “Operators need accurate reporting, reduced operational friction, and timely decision-making. OrbitMI’s platform delivers this through data integrity, system integration, and practical workflows.”

The Tokyo expansion follows increased activity in Asia. OrbitMI has gained new customers, strengthened ties with classification societies, and participated in regional events on performance optimization and digital transformation.
