James Kemball expands Felixstowe off-dock capacity

James Kemball has become the largest off-dock container storage provider in Felixstowe following the acquisition of a new site close to the port.

The transport and storage company has acquired a six-acre site less than a quarter of a mile from the Port of Felixstowe. The site was purchased last month from Genesee & Wyoming Inc and is already operational, with additional services planned.

The acquisition lifts James Kemball’s total off-dock container storage capacity in the Felixstowe area to more than 7,500 TEU. This makes it the largest off-dock facility of its kind in the region.

Andy Tattersall, Operations and Commercial Director at James Kemball, said the expansion strengthens the company’s market position and supports changing customer needs. He said it also helps customers reduce operational costs while maintaining high service levels.

The company said the added capacity will improve access for importers and exporters, shipping lines, and freight forwarders. It will also support faster turnaround times and lower costs.

The expanded facility will help customers reduce quay rent and port-related charges. It will also operate without a depot vehicle booking surcharge, supporting the haulage community.

Tattersall said the investment reflects James Kemball’s focus on service quality and long-term customer value. He added that the new site provides greater flexibility and supports more efficient and scalable supply chain solutions.

The acquisition highlights James Kemball’s long-term commitment to the Port of Felixstowe and its confidence in the continued growth of the UK container logistics market.
