Wärtsilä signs 10-year lifecycle deal for 12 LNG carriers

Wärtsilä has signed a 10-year Lifecycle Agreement with MOL Global Ship Management to support 12 new LNG carriers.

MOL Global Ship Management is based in Singapore and is fully owned by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines. The agreement aims to reduce engine downtime, improve maintenance flexibility, and ensure reliable vessel performance. Wärtsilä booked the agreement for three vessels in the third quarter of 2025, with the remaining vessels booked in the first half of the year.

The deal addresses growing pressure on gas carrier operators to maintain safe and efficient operations while managing market volatility, complex vessel systems, and tightening environmental regulations.

The agreement includes Wärtsilä’s Dynamic Maintenance Planning solution, 24/7 remote operational support, and proactive contract management. These services will support flexible maintenance schedules, longer service intervals, and lower spare parts consumption. Wärtsilä will also guarantee the availability of service engineers.

Wärtsilä will deploy its Expert Insight predictive maintenance solution across the fleet. The system uses real-time vessel data to identify potential issues before they affect operations, helping to minimise downtime and avoid unexpected repairs.

“Wärtsilä’s Lifecycle Agreement will optimise our vessel operations and maintenance,” said Namit Mathur, Director at MOL Global Ship Management. He added that the agreement will also support emissions reduction and more sustainable fleet operations.

Henrik Wilhelms, Director of Agreement Sales at Wärtsilä Marine, said lifecycle agreements provide operators with operational reliability, cost predictability, and optimised maintenance while supporting decarbonisation goals.

The 12 LNG carriers were delivered in 2024 and 2025. Each vessel is equipped with two six-cylinder and two eight-cylinder Wärtsilä 34DF dual-fuel engines, four gas valve units, and catalytic systems to reduce emissions.
