RCL introduces rate increase for Middle East cargo amid Strait of Hormuz tensions
Regional Container Lines (RCL) has announced a General Rate Increase (GRI) for cargo moving to and from the Middle East.

Regional Container Lines (RCL) has announced a General Rate Increase (GRI) for cargo moving to and from the Middle East, Arabian Gulf and Persian Gulf as it continues to monitor the evolving security situation around the Strait of Hormuz.

The carrier said the measure is necessary to maintain service integrity amid operational adjustments and network disruptions affecting regional shipping routes.

Effective March 2, 2026, the following rate increases will apply until further notice: USD 2,000 per 20GP container, USD 4,000 per 40HC container and USD 4,000 per special equipment, including reefer, dangerous goods and out-of-gauge cargo.

The surcharge will be borne by the booking party and applies to all bookings from March 2, 2026, including shipments not yet loaded, cargo already on the water but not yet discharged, and shipments moving to or from the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and Iraq.
