MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company announced a series of rate increases and surcharges across multiple trade routes effective mid-March and early April 2026.

The carrier will implement new freight rates from India and Pakistan to Europe effective March 16, 2026. Rates from Nhava Sheva to Antwerp will be $2,150 per 20-foot and 40-foot container. Rates from the same origin to Valencia will be $2,250 per container. Rates from Ennore and Kolkata to European destinations will be higher. The rates apply until March 31, 2026.

MSC will apply an Emergency Fuel Surcharge from Northern Europe to the Indian Subcontinent starting March 16. The surcharge will be $100 per TEU for dry units and $150 per TEU for reefer units.

The carrier will impose a Peak Season Surcharge from Europe to Southern Africa effective April 2, 2026. The surcharge will be $125 per TEU to South Africa, $150 per TEU to Namibia, and $250 per TEU to Mozambique. Reefer containers to Namibia and Mozambique will incur higher charges.

MSC cited strong demand on the Europe to Southern Africa market as the reason for the peak season surcharge. The company said the charge is necessary to maintain services at the required level.

Additional Emergency Fuel Surcharges will apply on routes between Northern Europe and multiple destinations including Italy, Red Sea, East Africa, West Mediterranean, Adriatic, Australia and New Zealand. Specific rates vary by route and container type.

All surcharges and rate announcements are in addition to existing charges including bunker recovery charges, emissions trading system fees, terminal handling charges and other applicable fees. The rates apply to freight-all-kinds cargo excluding IMO category commodities and high-value commodities.
