Ethiopian Cargo joins WebCargo to expand digital booking
Freightos has announced that Ethiopian Cargo will integrate with its WebCargo booking platform by the end of the month, extending digital rate distribution, quoting, eBooking, payment processing and interlining capabilities to freight forwarders worldwide.
The move brings Africa’s largest air cargo network onto one of the industry’s principal digital booking platforms.
Ethiopian Cargo serves more than 145 destinations globally through a combination of dedicated freighters and passenger belly capacity, offering both standard and priority shipment options.
Through WebCargo, freight forwarders will gain real-time access to Ethiopian Cargo’s capacity on key trade lanes connecting Africa to Europe, the United States, China, India, Kenya and South Africa, while also benefiting from the carrier’s extensive intra-African network.
The integration addresses a structural gap in the African air cargo market. While the continent’s air freight sector is growing faster than the global average, a significant share of bookings originating in the region continues to be handled by non-African carriers.
Ethiopian Cargo’s presence on the platform is intended to redirect more of that volume toward African-based capacity while improving the speed and convenience of access for forwarders.
Pablo Pinillos, CFO and Interim CEO of Freightos, framed the partnership as a practical response to growing market volatility, emphasising that speed and reliability of access to capacity have become critical differentiators for freight forwarders operating in an environment of shifting routes, fluctuating costs and constrained supply.
Dereje Derero, Managing Director of Ethiopian Cargo and Logistics Services, described digital transformation as a central pillar of the carrier’s growth strategy, and positioned the Freightos integration as a further step in delivering faster and more reliable service to customers globally.
