Newbuild Vessel Pair Joins QatarEnergy’s Growing LNG Fleet

Malaysia’s MISC Group and its consortium partners NYK, K-Line, and China LNG Shipping (Holdings) have taken delivery of two new-generation liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, the Mihzem and Idd Al Shargi, marking another milestone in QatarEnergy’s LNG fleet expansion program.

Built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, the two carriers are the fifth and sixth vessels in the consortium’s 12-vessel series and the first to be managed by MISC’s Marine Services arm. The delivery underscores MISC’s expanding role in supporting QatarEnergy’s drive to increase LNG capacity and strengthen energy security.

The vessels’ names – Mihzem and Idd Al Shargi – draw inspiration from landmark sites in Qatar’s energy history, symbolizing continuity and progress from early discoveries to modern global partnerships. Both carriers are equipped with advanced systems meeting the International Maritime Organization’s environmental standards, making them among the most efficient and sustainable LNG vessels in service.

The naming ceremony was attended by representatives from QatarEnergy, Hudong-Zhonghua, classification societies ABS and CCS, as well as senior management from MISC and its consortium partners.
