Global Shipping Groups urge seafarer safety in Strait of Hormuz crisis
International Chamber of Shipping, European Shipowners and the Asian Shipowners' Association

The International Chamber of Shipping, European Shipowners and the Asian Shipowners’ Association have issued a joint statement following the military conflict in the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding region.

The organisations expressed deep concern over attacks on seafarers and the reported loss of life.

“Our foremost concern is for the wellbeing of the seafarers and civilians affected,” the statement said. “All parties must take all necessary steps to safeguard the safety of seafarers who are simply going about their job.”

The groups described the situation as fast-moving and unpredictable. They urged the industry to rely only on verified information from trusted sources.

They also called on ships operating in the region to conduct thorough risk assessments and remain vigilant in line with the latest Best Management Practices (BMP) maritime security guidelines. Operators should continue to monitor updates issued by official state channels, the statement added.
