The biggest U.S. shipbuilder is Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. (HII). It is the largest military shipbuilding company in the country, with around 44,000 employees and $11.5 billion in revenue as of 2024.

It ranked no. 375 on the Fortune 500 and is a major provider of shipbuilding and other professional services to the U.S. Government and partners in the industry.

In 2022, the company changed its branding name to HII.

The biggest U.S shipbuilder has three major shipbuilding divisions: Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia, Ingalls Shipbuilding in Mississippi, and Mission Technologies.

The company was named after the founders of the shipbuilding branches; Collis Potter Huntington, the founder of Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company, and Robert Ingersoll Ingalls Sr., who laid the foundations of Ingalls Shipbuilding.

It was founded on March 31, 2011, and since then has expanded its business by acquiring UniversalPegasus International, the S.M. Stoller Corporation, Camber Corporation, Novonics, the Columbia Group’s Engineering Solutions division, G2 Inc., Alion Science and Technology, and Fulcrum IT
