Yara Clean Ammonia (YCA) has signed a long-term shipping deal with Navigator Amon Shipping to secure two modern medium gas carriers (MGCs), each with 51,000 cbm capacity.
As explained, the vessels are equipped with dual-fuel engines and ice-class notation, ensuring year-round access to Northern Europe while supporting the use of renewable and low-emission fuels. The new ships are expected to lower freight costs per tonne, boost margins, and enhance flexibility while preparing the company for rising demand and stricter environmental standards.

According to Hanwha, scaling hydrogen and ammonia adoption at sea will require regulatory clarity, mature technology, ship design integration, and skilled crews — all underpinned by early collaboration across the industry.
Earlier this year, Yara Clean Ammonia also signed a time-charter contract with Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) for an ammonia-fueled medium gas carrier (AFMGC), to be delivered in November 2026.

André Risholm, CEO of Amon Maritime, stated that partnering with industry leaders such as Navigator Gas and Yara Clean Ammonia was enabling the company to realize its vision and bring ammonia-powered transportation into commercial operation.
