Galveston LNG Bunker Port inks supply deal with international shipping company

Galveston LNG Bunker Port (GLBP), a Texas-based developer of what is said to be the first U.S. Gulf Coast dedicated LNG bunkering facility, has signed a commercial commitment with an international shipping company for the provision of LNG bunker fuel in Galveston Bay.

The Heads of Agreement with the undisclosed client covers the use of LNG as a marine fuel to be delivered via a Jones Act–compliant LNG bunker vessel, commencing in 2029.

GLBP’s new terminal, expected to begin operations late in 2028, will supply LNG by barge to vessels calling at Port Houston, the Port of Galveston, and the Port of Texas City.

This comes after the recent announcements that the GLBP project has secured all necessary major state and federal permits for construction and has selected its engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor.
