Cruise Guest Faces Assault Charges Following Controversial Dance Floor Altercation
Recently, there’s been a surge in unruly behavior among cruise passengers, with some incidents escalating into physical confrontations. This week, the CEO of a California title insurance firm found himself in hot water after an altercation on Virgin Voyages’ ship, the Resilient Lady, while docked in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The incident unfolded last Monday night around 70 nautical miles from Martinique as the ship set sail for San Juan. It all began at “On The Rocks,” a cocktail lounge on Deck 6 known for its martinis and vibrant atmosphere. Virgin voyages promotes this spot as an ideal venue for making bold choices.
A fellow passenger was reportedly dancing barefoot on the bar when nichol DeGiorgio asked him to put his shoes back on, saying something like “We’re all adults here.” Ironically, this cruise line is linked to Sir Richard Branson—who’s notorious for his own playful antics.
The dancer didn’t take kindly to DeGiorgio’s request and responded with crude comments and an obscene gesture. Security footage later confirmed this exchange and was submitted to the FBI as part of their inquiry.
according to court documents filed in Puerto Rico, kenneth DeGiorgio (53) confronted the man he didn’t know by wrapping his hands around his neck and allegedly threatening him. Following this confrontation, the ship’s captain confined DeGiorgio to his cabin until they reached port where federal authorities could take over.
Once docked in Puerto Rico,FBI agents attempted to question him; however,he opted not to respond without legal depiction. His lawyers claim that DeGiorgio acted out of concern for his wife’s safety after she felt harassed by the other passenger.
DeGiorgio now faces misdemeanor charges related to assault; if found guilty,he could spend up to a year behind bars according to reports from The New York Times. His legal team has expressed confidence that he will be cleared of any wrongdoing soon.
