Korean, Peruvian shipyards enter agreement on development of new submarines

Class society DNV has already granted approval in principle for the submarine, examples of which are being proposed by the partners as replacements for the Peruvian Navy's six Type 209 boats that have been in service since the mid-1970s.

The MOA marks the latest collaboration between HHI and SIMA.

The two companies are also jointly constructing a frigate, an offshore patrol vessel, and two landing craft for the Peruvian Navy at SIMA's facilities. These four vessels, for which HHI will undertake design work and provide equipment and technical support, are scheduled to be delivered to the Peruvian Navy sequentially from 2026.
