MOL Launches Innovative Initiative to Enhance the Wellbeing of Seafarers

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL), led by President & CEO Takeshi Hashimoto and based in Tokyo’s Minato-ku, has just rolled out an exciting new initiative called “OceanCare.” This program is all about supporting the mental health and overall wellbeing of seafarers working on their ships around the globe.

Kicking off on May 1, 2025, “OceanCare” aims to provide confidential mental health resources that are easily accessible for MOL’s crew members and their families. Understanding the unique pressures faced by those at sea, this program offers a safe space where seafarers can reach out for help without any stigma attached.

in partnership with The Mission to Seafarers (MtS) UK—a charity with a rich history of over 160 years dedicated to maritime support—“OceanCare” introduces a groundbreaking role: the Welfare Officer. This individual will act as a trusted contact for seafarers and their loved ones, ensuring they receive personalized attention when they need it most.

The program goes beyond just offering someone to talk to; it includes professional counseling services tailored specifically for women in maritime roles and various training sessions focused on wellbeing. This holistic approach underscores MOL’s commitment to nurturing its workforce’s mental health alongside physical safety.

“OceanCare” is not just an isolated effort; it aligns seamlessly with MOL Group’s broader Sustainability Strategy that emphasizes creating safe and inclusive workplaces under its “Safety & Value” and “Human & Community” pillars. By prioritizing both physical safety and mental wellness, MOL is setting a standard in the industry that values complete care for its employees.

With initiatives like these, MOL is not only enhancing support systems but also fostering a culture where every crew member feels valued—both at sea and at home.
