Ex-FedEx Executive Takes the Helm at USPS
David Steiner, who previously held the reins at Waste Management adn has been part of FedEx’s board, is stepping in as the new postmaster general for the U.S. postal Service, according to NPR.
Amber McReynolds, chair of the USPS Board of Governors, shared this news during a public meeting on May 9. Steiner will officially take over in july.
This appointment comes amid rising worries that officials from the Trump administration are keen on tightening their grip over an agency designed to operate independently as its inception by Congress.
Following Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick’s swearing-in earlier this year, President trump hinted at a potential “merger” between his department and USPS.This suggestion sparked significant backlash from postal worker unions.
In a statement regarding his new role with USPS, Steiner expressed his admiration for the association’s commitment to public service and its buisness objectives. He emphasized his dedication to preserving its independence within the executive branch.
