Moscow Expands Transit Innovation with 100 Off-Wire Trams

In Russia, the moskva Metro has teamed up with PK TS to roll out a fleet of 100 innovative trams. these four-axle, fully low-floor models are designed for versatility, boasting the ability to travel off-wire for up to 4 kilometers at speeds of at least 20 km/h.

A standout feature is their rescue mode, which allows them to tow another vehicle for a distance of at least 3 kilometers while maintaining a speed of around 10 km/h.

The delivery schedule is quite enterprising: the first batch of 35 trams is expected within just over four months, followed by an additional set of 15 in the next three months. The remaining units will be delivered in two phases throughout 2026—20 and then another batch of 30. All these vehicles will find their home at the newly renovated Apakov depot.

This contract carries a hefty price tag of approximately $39.9 billion roubles and includes maintenance services that will ensure these trams remain operational for their projected lifespan of three decades.
