Houthis Impose Naval Blockade Targeting Israel's Haifa Port

the Houthi movement from Yemen has declared a “maritime blockade” targeting Israel’s Haifa port, cautioning shipping companies to avoid the area or face potential threats, as reported by Breakbulk News.

In a recent broadcast on May 19,military spokesperson yahya Saree announced that Haifa is now officially on their list of maritime targets. He urged all vessels heading to or currently at Haifa to alter their routes instantly.

Saree stated, “We are informing all shipping firms with vessels in or en route to this port that it is now considered a target.”

Despite ongoing missile attacks, Israel’s Iron Dome and other defense systems have successfully intercepted most Houthi missiles aimed at them. However, the Houthis’ capability to strike from such distances has created anxiety among shippers and led to meaningful changes in global trade routes.

This year saw the Houthis agree to cease attacks on U.S.-flagged ships after increased military responses from Washington.Nevertheless, vessels registered under allied nations or those destined for Israeli ports remain at risk.
