The rise of AI-driven virtual assistants is transforming industries, especially in transportation management.Companies are not just adopting these technologies; they’re also enhancing their own systems to keep pace.
“The potential here is both vast and thrilling,” shared Ben Wiesen, president of Carrier Logistics Inc., a firm specializing in less-than-truckload operations. He emphasized that while AI plays a crucial role today, its rapid evolution means we’ve only scratched the surface.
Wiesen believes there’s immense potential for AI to streamline tasks like dispatching and customer service. “If businesses don’t actively integrate AI into their processes, they risk falling behind,” he warned.
This shift towards automation could significantly alter job roles within trucking and logistics. Jonah McIntire from Trimble pointed out that this new wave of technology isn’t just another software tool; it’s directly competing with human labour.
“AI agents can operate around the clock without hefty salaries,” McIntire noted. however, he cautioned that they still make odd mistakes at times—hence the need for oversight.
Trimble aims to automate between 4% and 17% of its workforce this year alone. “We’re already surpassing that initial target,” McIntire added optimistically.
The Data Dilemma
Galland likened it to online shopping—when you see an option to split payments over several months right at checkout; it’s all about timing.
His company’s TMS operates on a unified codebase interacting with separate databases—a strategy allowing for continuous updates akin to smartphone improvements.
This approach enables frequent enhancements rather than waiting for major overhauls, making integrations smoother as well.
Meanwhile, companies like McLeod Software are launching innovative tools such as MPact.RespondAI which automates responses based on incoming communications from various sources.
Doug Schrier from McLeod highlighted how slow response times can hinder operations—sometimes taking over 40 minutes just for simple inquiries! by leveraging TMS data effectively through their new request, they aim to drastically reduce these delays.
“We believe we can accelerate onboarding by providing actionable insights,” Schrier concluded.
