ABS Greenlights Innovative Deepwater LNG Floating Solution from SHI
ABS has given a nod to Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for thier innovative design of a floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility, known as the MLF-O. This cutting-edge model is tailored for deepwater operations, capable of withstanding wave heights up to nine meters. SHI claims that this design not only speeds up delivery times but also offers a more cost-effective solution compared to customary onshore facilities.
The MLF-O features an ingenious cargo hold configuration that minimizes internal shock from sloshing by arranging the storage in two rows. By standardizing both the LNG cargo hold adn hull, SHI anticipates boosting capacity from 180,000 cubic meters to an extraordinary 220,000 cubic meters. This marks SHI’s second standard floating LNG model; earlier this year, they introduced the MLF-N designed for nearshore environments with calmer waters averaging two-meter wave heights.
