As reported by RailLog Korea, Hyundai Rotem showcased several innovative transit solutions at the recent trade event in Busan, held from June 18-21. Among the highlights were a light rail vehicle designed for Edmonton’s Valley Line West, an automated metro trainset for Taoyuan’s Green Line, and a high-speed train for Seoul’s Airport Express line.
Light Rail Vehicle for Edmonton
The company unveiled one of the forty low-floor light rail vehicles intended for Edmonton’s ambitious C$2.6 billion Valley Line West project. This contract was finalized in late 2021.
This new segment is part of a larger cross-city initiative spanning 27 kilometers. The Hyundai Rotem trains will serve both phases of this route, connecting Mill Woods to Lewis Farms. Notably, the first section—Valley Line Southeast—was inaugurated in November 2023.
Automated trainsets for Taoyuan
The display also featured one of the forty two-car automated trainsets being supplied to Taoyuan Metro’s Green Line as part of a contract worth approximately ₩54.2 billion signed back in June 2018. This agreement includes essential railway systems needed for this project located southwest of Taipei.
The initial phase spans about 27.8 kilometers and is designed with a Y-shaped layout that connects Kengkou and Hengshan on the Airport Line to Bade in southern Taoyuan via its main station. p >
High-speed trainsets for Incheon Airport
A standout at the exhibition was one of nine six-car trainsets being constructed under a ₩181 billion contract awarded in January 2022 to enhance services between Incheon Airport and Seoul Station by A’REX. p >
The new trains are capable of reaching speeds up to150 km/h and aim to alleviate congestion along the61-kilometer route between these key locations. Once fully operational, they will reduce peak service intervals from six minutes down to just four minutes. p >
