US Defense Department awards $72m contract modification for submarine tender construction

Work will be performed in San Diego, California (95 per cent); Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (four per cent); various locations across the United States (one per cent); and various locations globally (less than one per cent), and is expected to be completed by September 30, 2026.

FY2024 research, development, test and evaluation funds in the amount of US$72.66 million will be obligated at time of award and will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Sea Systems Command is the contracting activity.

The AS(X)-class ships are set to replace the US Navy's two remaining Emory S. Land-class submarine tenders, which are scheduled for decommissioning in 2029 and 2030, respectively.
