Black Country Manufacturing Pioneer Faces Administration Challenges

According to a recent report from rail business UK, the black Country Innovative Manufacturing Organisation (BCIMO), known for its specialized rail research and progress facilities in Dudley, has unluckily gone into administration. This includes the notable Very Light Rail National Innovation Centre.

Olivia Brown, who previously led marketing and operations at BCIMO, expressed that while they made important strides in establishing the organization as a key player in rail and transport innovation, they ultimately fell short of securing essential funding that was supposed to be foundational to their business model. This lack of financial support was pivotal in their downfall.

The situation escalated on July 1 when Deviesh Raikundalia and Tyrone Courtman from RSM UK Restructuring Advisory were appointed as joint administrators. Currently, Lambert Smith Hampton is handling the sale of BCIMO’s assets and business, with bids due by July 8.

This center was developed at an investment of £32 million and boasted various facilities such as a railway test track spanning 2.2 kilometers, engineering labs, event spaces for meetings, and serviced office areas.

  • A visit by Rail Business UK, earlier this year highlighted the innovative work being done at the Very Light Rail National Innovation Centre.
