New Maritime Assault Near Hodeidah Leaves Two Injured and Two Missing, Reports Ambrey

According to a report from Reuters, an alarming incident occurred on July 7 involving a Liberia-flagged bulk carrier near YemenS Red Sea port of Hodeidah. The British maritime security firm Ambrey revealed that the vessel was attacked by drones and small boats, resulting in injuries to two crew members and leaving another two unaccounted for. The ship’s engines were reportedly disabled, causing it to drift aimlessly.

The targeted vessel was later identified as the Eternity C, managed by Cosmoship management. This Greek-operated bulk carrier faced a serious assault with sea drones and skiffs while navigating close to Hodeidah. Despite having armed security personnel onboard, the attack left two crew members severely injured and raised concerns about the safety of those still missing.

Dialog with the crew became challenging after the bridge sustained damage during the attack, according to officials at Cosmoship.Earlier that same day, Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis claimed duty for another maritime incident involving their assault on a cargo ship named Magic Seas using gunfire and explosive-laden remote-controlled boats; they reported that this vessel sank in the Red Sea—marking their first high-seas attack of 2023.This situation highlights ongoing tensions in maritime regions where shipping routes are increasingly vulnerable to such aggressive actions. As global trade relies heavily on these waterways, incidents like this not only threaten lives but also disrupt international commerce significantly.
