Pueblo deputies warn of Bitcoin scam circulating within the community

PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - Pueblo County deputies are warning residents of a Bitcoin ATM scam circulating in the community.

The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office said people have received phone calls from a suspect who is impersonating the victim’s bank and asking for payment via a Bitcoin ATM.

"In some cases, the suspect tells the victim that someone was looking at child pornography on their computer and they need to pay thousands of dollars at the Bitcoin ATM to avoid getting into trouble‚" the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies reiterated that no legitimate bank or company would call and ask their customer to submit money at a Bitcoin ATM and reminded residents to avoid giving personal or financial information over the phone.

If you are asked to deposit money and are wary of who’s on the other end of the phone call, deputies recommend that you should hang up and call the agency directly to verify the call.

If you believe that your financial or personal information has been given to a suspected scammer, contact your bank and report it immediately.
