New effort aims to establish ammonia supply chain in Europe
North Ammonia and Höegh Evi have partnered to explore a clean ammonia supply chain from Norway to Europe, leveraging Norway’s renewable energy resources to produce green ammonia.
This collaboration aims to provide a scalable and efficient solution for transporting hydrogen to European industrial users, supporting the continent’s transition to cleaner energy. Their joint efforts will focus on technical and commercial solutions to build infrastructure that connects Norwegian renewable resources with the growing European demand for clean hydrogen.
Ammonia is a versatile energy vector with several end user markets currently being matured. In North Ammonia, we actively develop infrastructure for RFNBO ammonia supply to the maritime industry and with solutions from Höegh Evi we can broaden our offering and bring hydrogen to industrial users across Europe
… said Mikkel Tørud, CEO of North Ammonia.
North Ammonia specializes in RFNBO (Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin) ammonia production, primarily for maritime applications, while Höegh Evi is developing floating import terminals with ammonia-to-hydrogen conversion technology.
With hydrogen playing a key role in decarbonizing industries like steel, chemicals, and heavy transport, the partnership aims to establish a reliable supply chain that strengthens energy cooperation between Norway and Europe. This initiative supports Europe’s ambitious climate and energy goals by expanding access to renewable hydrogen and ammonia.
As Europe moves toward cleaner energy sources, hydrogen will play a crucial role in reducing emissions from hard-to-abate industries such as steel, chemicals, and heavy transport.
