ZIM signs $2.3 billion deal for ten LNG dual-fuel container ships
ZIM has signed new long-term charter agreements for ten 11,500 TEU liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel container vessels, with a total charter hire valued at approximately $2.3 billion.
Seven of the ships will be provided by Container Ventures Holdings Inc., a TMS Group affiliate, while the remaining three will come from a company affiliated with Kenon Holdings, ZIM’s former largest shareholder. All ten vessels are to be built at the Zhoushan Changhong Shipyard in China, with deliveries scheduled between 2027 and 2028.
ZIM CEO Eli Glickman highlighted that this move builds on the company’s recent fleet modernization and strengthens its position in LNG-fueled shipping. He emphasized that these versatile ships align with ZIM’s commercial needs and sustainability goals, improving both operational agility and environmental performance.
Glickman also noted that expanding the LNG fleet supports the company’s long-term competitiveness and positions it well for future growth in demand for eco-friendly shipping solutions.
