DNV: Almost fifty alternative-fueled vessels ordered in April
Kristian Hammer, Product Manager AFI & Senior Consultant at DNV, has shared DNV’s latest data regarding alternative-fuelled vessel orders during April 2025.
According to Hammer, the most recent figures from DNV’s Alternative Fuels Insight (AFI) platform show that April 2025 was another solid month, with 49 new orders placed for alternative-fuelled vessels. Methanol-fuelled vessels led the way with 24 new orders, marking a continued post-winter rebound.
The majority of these methanol-fuel orders were in the container (14) and RoPax (9) segments, with one additional order in the tanker segment, reflecting a growing diversity in vessel types opting for methanol propulsion.

LNG-fuelled vessels also saw activity, with 20 new orders distributed across the container (16), cruise (2), and RoPax (2) segments. Additionally, two orders were placed for LNG bunkering vessels, indicating sustained interest in LNG infrastructure.
Lastly, hydrogen made a notable return with two new orders from the cruise segment, the first such hydrogen-fuelled vessel orders recorded since June 2024.
