Steelpaint wins contract with Winning International

Steelpaint GmbH has secured a new contract from Singapore-based Winning International Group to supply its advanced polyurethane-zinc system for the Winning Kindness, a 184,000 dwt capesize bulk carrier.

Also, this marks the first formal collaboration between Steelpaint and Winning International, further expanding the German manufacturer’s presence among major shipowners in Asia. The coating will be applied during a scheduled drydocking at a shipyard in Zhoushan, China, this September.

”This latest contract signals strong momentum for our corrosion resistant coatings across Asia,” said Frank Müller, Director, Steelpaint.

Under the agreement, Steelpaint will supply its two-coat protective system for areas of the vessel most vulnerable to corrosion, specifically the tank top and lower hopper/stool structures within a 2-meter band. The product, known as Stelpant, is designed to reduce lifecycle maintenance costs and extend vessel service life.

Additionally, Steelpaint will provide onboard maintenance coatings as part of the package, allowing the Winning Kindness crew to carry out spot repairs and extend protection between scheduled drydockings.

”Vessels between 10 and 15 years old typically suffer thinning of tank top plating and if not addressed, can result in expensive steel renewal work,” said Dmitry Gromilin, Chief Technical Supervisor, Steelpaint.

Field tests showed the Stelpant coating retained its protective performance even after 17 months of service, helping to extend maintenance intervals to roughly 2.5 years and cutting down steel renewal costs by an estimated US$4.5 million over the vessel’s lifespan.

A senior superintendent at Winning International noted the decision was based on both performance and cost-efficiency.

This is Steelpaint’s second contract with a Singapore-based operator in recent months. Back in April, the company announced a deal to coat 20 vessels for one of the world’s largest dry bulk fleet owners.
