OrbitMI expands AI capabilities, names new Chief Product Officer

In a move that strengthens its push into AI-driven maritime solutions, OrbitMI has announced plans to acquire Quebec-based artificial intelligence company AuQub.
The deal will bring AuQub’s advanced AI agents, designed to streamline workflows and eliminate repetitive tasks, under the OrbitMI umbrella, further enhancing its platform’s ability to support smarter, more efficient maritime operations.
By integrating AuQub’s accessible SaaS tools, OrbitMI aims to expand its intelligent workflow capabilities, giving shipowners and operators the insights they need to optimize voyages in real time, stay ahead of evolving regulations, and make faster, more informed decisions.
”Artificial intelligence is central to our mission of making maritime more intelligent,” said Ali Riaz, CEO, OrbitMI.
As part of the acquisition, OrbitMI is welcoming AuQub co-founder Alexandre Lapointe as its new Chief Product Officer. In his new role, Lapointe will lead the company’s product strategy and integration efforts, guiding the development of features designed to meet the evolving needs of a global maritime customer base.
Additionally, Lapointe brings over 25 years of experience across the transportation, energy, and software sectors. He has held key roles in maritime technology at companies such as Lloyd’s Register (LR) and served as Chief Product Officer and CTO at OneOcean Group.
”I’m truly excited to join OrbitMI and contribute to its vision for a more intelligent and connected maritime industry,” commented Alexandre Lapointe, Chief Product Officer, OrbitMI.
An engineer by training, Alexandre Lappinte has more than 30 years of experience in software development and digital transformation. He has held senior leadership roles for the past decade with a focus on product integration and enterprise finance.
He has also contributed to five mergers and acquisitions, including one recognized with the 2023 Mid-Sized Enterprise Sale of the Year award in London. In addition to co-founding AuQub, he was a founder of 8thSea.
