Connecting Tracks to Skies: A New Era of Travel Collaboration

AUSTROPE: In a groundbreaking move, the Star Alliance, comprising 25 airlines, has teamed up with Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) to streamline travel between Wien airport and cities like Graz,Linz,Salzburg, and Innsbruck.

This collaboration allows travelers to check in online or at ÖBB stations and obtain boarding passes for both their flights and train rides. Plus, they can rack up frequent flyer points even when traveling by train!

“Working together is essential if we want to tackle today’s mobility challenges,” remarked Peter Hanke, Austria’s federal Minister for Innovation, Mobility & Infrastructure on March 19. “The alliance between ÖBB, Austrian Airlines, and Star Alliance exemplifies my vision of connecting various transport options.”

  • The partnership isn’t just limited to Austria; Deutsche Bahn is also joining forces with Condor Airlines. They’re enhancing travel options from Frankfurt airport to over 21 destinations. “While our city flights already link several hubs across Germany and Europe with Frankfurt,” noted Condor CEO Peter Gerber. “the scarcity of available slots means that connections with our intercontinental flights are somewhat restricted. We’re excited about this expanded collaboration with Deutsche Bahn.”
