Alstom Unveils Innovative People Mover Cars for Atlanta's Airport Plane Train System

In the united States, Alstom has rolled out the frist of 29 Innovia APM 300R vehicles for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta international Airport. This $87 million initiative marks Alstom’s largest contract for replacing peoplemover systems too date.

The new trains aim to boost reliability and facilitate a brief extension of the Plane Train route. With this latest order, the airport has now acquired a total of 63 Innovia vehicles across three separate purchases.

The cars are being produced in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, featuring a lightweight aluminum structure that enhances energy efficiency and allows for faster speeds compared to older models. Each train can accommodate up to 900 passengers and is set to begin operations in 2026.

This underground Plane train spans approximately 4.5 kilometers with eight stations located within the secure area of one of the busiest airports globally. Alstom is responsible for its operation and maintenance after taking over from Bombardier Transportation.

Additionally, travelers can also utilize the elevated ATL SkyTrain, which runs on Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ Crystal Mover technology over a distance of about 2.4 kilometers.
