Pharma.Aero and TIACA Unveil Innovative Collaboration for Air Cargo Advancement

Pharma.Aero and TIACA (The International Air Cargo Association) have teamed up for the Food and Farm for Health initiative, highlighting the economic significance of air cargo in enhancing healthcare access and fostering economic growth in developing nations. Collaborating with CCA (The Cool chain Association) and HLA (The Humanitarian Logistics Association),this project aims to maximize air cargo’s ability to transport essential medicines while together uplifting local agricultural sectors.

Frank Van Gelder, Secretary General of Pharma.Aero, shared his thoughts on the project’s vision: “Our goal with the Food and Farm for Health Project is to harness air cargo as a solution to two pressing issues faced by low- and middle-income countries: improving healthcare access while boosting local economies. We identified a significant gap in logistics that could be filled by using air freight not just for importing life-saving drugs but also exporting fresh produce—like tropical fruits or organic vegetables—from local farmers to international markets.”

This strategy utilizes empty cargo space on return flights, creating a win-win situation that enhances trade efficiency. “This method not only speeds up delivery of crucial medical supplies but also opens new avenues for farmers, helping them tap into global markets,” added Van Gelder.

“Air freight isn’t just transportation; it’s an essential support system for communities worldwide,” remarked Steven Polmans, Chair of TIACA.

The completion of our Global Market Evolution Analysis is a pivotal step toward understanding how perishables and pharmaceuticals are transported globally. For instance, Kenya’s flower industry sustains countless jobs while India’s seafood exports contribute substantially to its economy—demonstrating how vital airfreight can be in promoting health and opportunity.

The project will leverage insights from experts specializing in pharmaceutical logistics as well as humanitarian supply chains focused on temperature-sensitive goods. It will evaluate global air cargo trends, their economic implications, and their alignment with the United Nations Enduring Development Goals (sdgs).

The Food and Farm for Health initiative embodies our collective mission across these organizations—to ensure fair access to healthcare resources while bolstering economic resilience around the globe.

The Cool Chain Association (CCA) unites various stakeholders within temperature-sensitive logistics aiming for impactful results beneficial both commercially and socially.

“Success hinges on partnerships,” emphasized Ian Buck from CCA’s board.”We aim to align healthcare providers’ efforts with those regions needing lifesaving treatments while simultaneously giving them opportunities through exporting their perishable goods.”

Their focus is on enhancing connections between supply chains so aid can reach those who need it most efficiently. p>“While there’s recognition within aid sectors about necessary changes ahead,” said George Fenton from HLA,” implementing change remains challenging.” He noted that innovative strategies are needed to strengthen local supply chain capabilities further. p >“Air cargo plays an indispensable role in delivering humanitarian assistance swiftly; though last-mile delivery continues being problematic.” The Food & Farm project aims at providing insights necessary for effective change through improved collaboration across sectors.” blockquote > div >
