Korea National Railway Partners with Poland to Accelerate High-Speed Rail Development

In a notable move, Korea National Railway (KNR) from South Korea has teamed up with Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK), the Polish entity behind high-speed rail and airport initiatives. This partnership is all about sharing insights and expertise.

The collaboration follows CPK’s earlier advisory deal with Incheon Airport in 2021. Fast forward two years, and a Korean consortium led by KNR along with Dohwa Engineering snagged a contract worth 134 million złoty to design a crucial segment of the high-speed line stretching from Katowice to the Czech border, covering about 70 kilometers at speeds of up to 250 km/h.

This latest agreement focuses on exchanging knowledge in various technical areas such as diagnostics, tunnel maintainance, and turnout upkeep—essential for ensuring smooth operations.

“With KNR managing over 650 kilometers of high-speed rail,” said Dr. Filip Czernicki, CEO of CPK during the signing on May 20th, “we’re eager to tap into their wealth of experience while also showcasing our own innovative solutions for the Y line connecting Warszawa – CPK [the new hub airport] – Łódź – Wrocław/Poznań.”

KNR isn’t just any player; they’ve successfully executed an remarkable array of projects across diverse regions including China, Vietnam, Sudan, and even parts of the USA. Their global footprint speaks volumes about their capabilities in modern railway infrastructure growth.
