Port Everglades Partners with MSC to Enhance Everglades Company Terminal Operations

[By Port Everglades]

Exciting news from Port Everglades! The Everglades Company terminal, Inc.(ECT) has just inked a fresh 10-year Marine terminal Lease and Operating Agreement with Broward County. This move solidifies the port’s status as the go-to hub in South Florida and a key player in driving economic growth for both Broward County and the entire state.

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners recently gave the green light to this long-term deal, allowing ECT—part of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC)—to take over a 39.18-acre terminal located in Southport’s cargo area, managed by Port Everglades Terminal, LLC. This agreement will last until December 31, 2034, with options for two additional five-year extensions.

This new lease replaces an earlier one that MSC held as 2004.

“This partnership with ECT enhances our role as an essential global trade gateway,” remarked Joseph morris,CEO and Port Director of Port Everglades.

According to insights from Martin Associates’ economic analysts, ECT’s activities under this new lease are projected to bring in over $161 million annually in business service revenue for the region. They anticipate supporting around 425 direct jobs while contributing about $10.5 million in local and state taxes during its frist year based on approximately 85,000 container movements—a figure expected to rise substantially throughout the agreement’s duration.

“As a company focused on stevedoring and terminal services, we’re dedicated to delivering top-notch support for our shipping clients as well as the local community that depends on our operations,” stated Rick Blackmore, CEO of Port Everglades Terminal, LLC.

This new arrangement also includes permanent improvements made by Port Everglades Terminal such as an office building and facilities like Rubber-Tired Gantry pads along with refrigerated racks capable of holding up to 450 stacked reefers. Additionally, there’s an inspection dock equipped with shore power infrastructure designed for up to 116 refrigerated shipping containers.
