Nox Redefines Overnight Travel with Innovative, Private, and Cost-Effective Train Journeys

A recent publication by Nox reveals exciting plans to establish a network of overnight trains across Europe, featuring private rooms priced competitively with flights.

Nox, which translates to “night” in Latin, was co-founded by Thibault Constant—known for his railway vlogs as Simply Railway—and Janek Smalla. Smalla previously played a key role in launching Flixtrain and led BoltS ridesharing efforts in Germany until he shifted his focus entirely to Nox.

The duo aims to completely transform the night train experience. They believe these services should evolve beyond mere nostalgia and become vital for enduring long-distance travel throughout Europe.

Nox has already secured train cars, is finalizing its interior designs, and gearing up for a significant funding round this fall. The goal is to launch operations by the year 2027.

Their vision rests on three core principles:

  • Your Space: Private compartments designed for one or two passengers ensure that travelers can lock their doors and enjoy peace of mind while they sleep;
  • Pocket-Amiable: Innovative seating arrangements will allow fares starting at €79 for singles and €149 for doubles—making it an attractive option to flying without any hidden fees;
  • Punctuality: Streamlined operations with no needless stops will guarantee timely arrivals at destinations.

“Our room design maximizes capacity compared to traditional services,” noted Smalla during the announcement on June 10. “This focus on efficiency will enable us to provide affordable options across more than thirty-five routes in europe.”

Nox intends to offer three types of accommodations featuring two-meter-long beds, individual seats with tables, ample standing space, and storage options. Additionally, there are plans for double beds and also rooms boasting panoramic windows.

“The idea of sleeping while traveling thru Europe is fantastic,” said Constant—a former engineer at Alstom and SNCF who received accolades at the inaugural railway Influencer Festival during InnoTrans in early September. “However, current offerings often require sharing cabins with strangers or come with cramped conditions that can be pricier than flying. We’re here to change that narrative.”
