Vane Brothers and Shell Launch Innovative Biofuel Supply for Cruise Ships at Manhattan Terminal

According to a recent publication by ship & Bunker,Vane Brothers,a maritime service provider,and shell,a global oil and gas giant,have successfully executed their inaugural marine biofuel delivery in New York.

Earlier this month at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal,the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Silver Shadow was refueled with a bio-blended marine fuel. This operation was facilitated by the tug Fort mchenry alongside the barge Double Skin 37.

Vane Brothers took to LinkedIn last week to announce this milestone as their first-ever delivery of bio-blended bunker fuel in New York. The shipping industry is increasingly leaning towards these eco-amiable alternatives due to their lower emissions compared to conventional marine fuels.These biofuels are often referred to as “drop-in” solutions because they can seamlessly integrate into existing ship engines without requiring significant modifications or upgrades. While European and Asian ports have already established robust supply chains for such fuels, access is gradually improving for vessels operating in U.S. waters.

The successful bunkering of Silver Shadow highlights the collaboration between Vane Brothers and Shell, both committed to promoting cleaner fuel options within maritime operations.
