Continental Explores $45 Million Growth Opportunity in San Antonio Area

A recent report from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation indicates that construction could kick off as early as november, with an anticipated completion date in 2027.

The proposed expansion will add around 160,000 square feet to the existing facility. This includes upgrades to current production areas and new storage solutions.

This New Braunfels plant opened its doors in 2022 and has already become a key player in the automotive tech sector. The city previously invested $5.5 million into this project by covering costs related to land acquisition and infrastructure improvements.

The factory currently employs approximately 450 individuals, according to Jeff Jewell, New Braunfels’ Economic Advancement Director. In a City Council meeting last November, he mentioned that Continental was eyeing potential expansions at their facilities across the U.S., with New Braunfels being a strong contender.

“They’ve recently formed partnerships focused on self-driving freight trucks,” Jewell noted, highlighting the need for increased production capacity at their sites.

The council was asked to establish a reinvestment zone at the Continental location for tax incentives related to this expansion; however, specifics about job creation or financial implications for the city were not discussed during that meeting.

Council members unanimously supported creating this zone but have yet to finalize any agreements regarding tax exemptions tied to these developments.
