Self-employment for young people in Greece is about to enter a new chapter. Starting in 2026, young freelancers will benefit from their first real tax relief — a reform that changes the rules of the game, particularly for those at the beginning of their careers.
A New Tax Scale
Under the new system, income up to 20,000 euros earned by freelancers under the age of 25 will be taxed at 0%. For those aged 26 to 30, the same income bracket will be taxed at just 9%, compared with the current 22%.
In practice, this means thousands of young professionals — from architects setting up offices to designers opening studios or entrepreneurs launching businesses — will see their tax burden fall significantly.
• At 19,000–20,000 euros income:
o Under 25: no tax at all, saving nearly 2,500 euros compared with today.
o Ages 26–30: about 1,300 euros less in taxes.
• At 24,000–25,000 euros income:
o Under 25: savings reach 3,200 euros.
o Ages 26–30: about 1,400 euros less.
• At 29,000–30,000 euros income:
o Under 25: more than 3,000 euros less in taxes.
o Ages 26–30: roughly 1,500 euros less.
• At 49,000–50,000 euros
