Kongsberg Maritime is shaking things up in the maritime world with its latest innovation: the K-sim Offshore DP3 anchor Handling Simulator. This state-of-the-art tool is set to redefine training and operational standards in the industry.

With a hefty investment of over £250,000, this simulator aims to boost skill levels, streamline operations, and promote eco-pleasant practices within maritime activities. It’s all about enhancing safety for local clients and partners by minimizing risks during critical operations.

Located at Kongsberg Maritime’s Westhill office in Aberdeen, this upgraded simulator responds to the increasing demand for skilled Dynamic Positioning professionals—especially vital in offshore oil and gas sectors like drilling and pipe-laying.It equips operators with crucial skills needed for large-scale projects across Europe’s North Sea.

The simulator offers an incredibly lifelike training experience where participants can tackle complex tasks and prepare for emergencies under controlled conditions. By mimicking real-life scenarios thru advanced simulations,it boosts competency while cutting down on costly on-the-job training expenses.

Kongsberg is also expanding its team of instructors from two to three expert Dynamic Positioning Operators by 2025. This move will bring even more diverse knowledge into thier training programs.

Kerry Craig, Operations Manager at Kongsberg Maritime, shared insights on current challenges: “The maritime sector today faces a mix of operational complexities, stricter safety regulations, environmental concerns—all while dealing with budget constraints and a skills shortage. We wanted to create a solution that offers realistic yet risk-free training so operators can build confidence and excel.”

Kongsberg Maritime also plans to partner with local ports and universities to maximize the new simulator’s capabilities further. While primarily designed for onsite learning experiences, these collaborations are expected to enrich educational programs and help shape future leaders in the maritime field.
