NewCold Expands Cold Storage Network with Strategic Facility Near Baltimore Port

A recent publication by NewCold reveals that the company is investing $275 million to establish a cutting-edge cold storage facility near Baltimore’s port, which is projected to generate between 125 and 150 jobs.
“We’re excited about collaborating with NewCold to introduce innovative technology and job opportunities in Maryland,” stated Governor Wes moore. “Our focus is on economic growth and fostering a business-friendly habitat.”
Headquartered in Breda, Netherlands, NewCold operates as a refrigerated logistics provider with an remarkable portfolio of automated warehouses across three continents—totaling around 1.9 million pallet positions. Their existing U.S. facilities are located in places like McDonough, Georgia; Burley, Idaho; Chicago; Lebanon, Indiana; and Tacoma, Washington.
The Hagerstown site was strategically selected due to its advantageous position within the East Coast supply chain network.
“With access to various rail lines and highways along with proximity to Baltimore’s port, our mid-Atlantic site will significantly enhance NewCold’s global reach,” said Harry Coker Jr., Secretary of Commerce for Maryland.
This new warehouse will be conveniently situated at the crossroads of interstates 70 and 81—providing vital connections not just locally but also extending into Northeast markets.
Innovative Technology at Work
The facilities utilize advanced technology such as automated systems designed for efficient product movement within high-bay warehouses.
