Community Cheers as MST Rides into Action
According to a recent announcement from Maastricht Aachen Airport (MST),the airport has teamed up wiht ECS Livestock during the Air Cargo Europe 2025 event in Munich. This collaboration aims to position MST as the go-to hub for horse transportation within the Netherlands.
The partnership kicks off immediately, allowing ECS Livestock to manage transport operations at MST’s specialized AnimalPort Netherlands, wich is designed specifically for safe and humane horse transit.
Dean Boljuncic, who leads commercial growth at MST,emphasized that managing live animals reflects an airportS commitment to quality. “If you can ensure safe and efficient handling of horses, it showcases your cargo operation’s high standards,” he noted.
Boljuncic further explained that just like pharmaceuticals and perishable goods, transporting live animals requires meticulous care. “Our experienced cargo team is well-equipped to handle these delicate shipments,” he added.
The AnimalPort can host between 26 and 32 horses at a time and boasts a specially designed floor system that provides excellent traction for the animals. Following renovations in 2024, it now includes modern amenities such as dressing rooms and hygiene locks along with washing stations.
“Typically, cargo flights don’t just carry horses; they frequently enough mix these shipments with other types of freight,” Boljuncic mentioned. “This opens up new routes from MST that will benefit our local logistics community.”
“More routes mean more chances for our clients’ goods to reach global markets through MST,” he continued, noting interest from several airlines in utilizing this facility for equine transport.
ECS Livestock brings over two decades of expertise in airlifting horses. Both organizations anticipate this alliance will considerably enhance horse shipment volumes through Maastricht Aachen Airport while also increasing overall cargo traffic at one of the Netherlands’ busiest airports.
