Meet the nexus Victoria, a 75,000 dwt LR1 product tanker that’s breaking new ground as the first of its kind to incorporate a dual-purpose exhaust gas cleaning and carbon capture system. This innovative installation took place in Singapore, thanks to the expertise of Value Maritime (VM), a company dedicated to cutting-edge emission-reducing technologies.

The Filtree system is quite impressive; it not only acts as a scrubber to eliminate sulfur and fine particulate matter but also captures CO2 from the ship’s exhaust. Currently, this technology can snag about 10% of CO2 emissions from the tanker’s output, wiht aspirations to ramp that up to 30% down the line. This makes Nexus Victoria stand out as the largest vessel equipped with VM’s SOx scrubber and carbon capture tech.Owned by Mitsui O.S.K Lines and managed by Synergy Maritime, this vessel was constructed in Japan and runs on a robust two-stroke diesel engine crafted by Mitsui Engineering. For MOL, this upgrade is more than just an enhancement; it’s a significant move towards slashing emissions for ships still reliant on customary fuels.

MOL has made it clear that they’re all in when it comes to developing solutions for carbon capture. They’re actively pursuing ways to create a CO2 value chain that could benefit various sectors like greenhouse agriculture, methanol production, and even food processing.

The Filtree system isn’t just high-tech; it’s designed for easy integration into existing vessels—think of it as plug-and-play! It features a gas cleaning unit capable of removing sulfur along with an impressive 99% of fine dust particles alongside CO2 from exhaust gases. Plus, there’s an efficient water treatment unit that ensures any wastewater released complies with environmental standards by filtering out oil residues and particulates.

Founded in 2017,Value Maritime has already rolled out similar systems across several vessels—including their
